This Bacteriology Laboratory Specialist position is part of the Sequencing and Bioinformatics Unit of the Infectious Disease Laboratory Section. The purpose of this position is to perform, refine and develop next-generation sequencing (NGS) and other molecular biological techniques on infectious disease pathogens of public health interests, including SARS-CoV-2. This position will also be responsible for NGS training of internal and external public health laboratory staff. This position will work to cultivate an inclusive work environment for all, with respect to diversity and equity.
A bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Molecular Biology, or related science.
Two years of professional experience performing laboratory testing in the field of Biology, Molecular Biology or Microbiology.
A Master's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
Hands on experience with NGS library preparation, troubleshooting etc.
Hands on experience with liquid handling system operation, maintenance, programming.
Workforce development and/or laboratory assay training experience on NGS and other molecular laboratory testing assays.
Experience with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Assay development and CLIA validation.
The ability to conduct advanced specialized tests independently.
Understanding biological hazards in a laboratory and practicing safety procedures.
Experience working with others from the State, Federal, and Private research funding organizations.
The ability to record and report results within specified timeframes.
Demonstrated ability to provide training for other laboratory employees, students, or other trainees, to support a collaborative team environment.
This position requires successful completion of a background check.
