Job Summary

Job Summary
The Digital Content Specialist supports communications staff in the design, development and delivery of both technical and web content. The work this position is responsible for will be determined by the Lead Communications staff within the Disability Services Division (DSD) with a greater emphasis on supporting efforts around managing the DSD Community-Based Services Manual (CBSM) and other web-based manual content.
Responsibilities include:

  • Develop technical content for digital and print communications. Content includes technical documents, manuals, user guides, design specifications and other specialized technical documentation.
  • Ensure that content is clear, accurate, accessible, and aligns with state and federal laws as well as DHS web content and communications standards.
  • Support DSD public web and email communications activities.
  • Provide technical assistance to division staff and contractors in creating and maintaining web content and communications.
  • Ensure documents meet Section 508, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), W3C WCAG and DHS accessibility standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
1 year professional experience developing technical or web content such as policy manuals, user guides, informational documents or equivalent demonstrating:

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud for document design (InDesign, Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Experience using a content management systems (CMS) and other digital content delivery platforms

OR
3 years advance technical or paraprofessional experience developing technical or web content such as policy manuals, user guides, informational documents or equivalent content demonstrating:

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud for document design (InDesign, Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Experience using a content management systems (CMS) and other digital content delivery platforms

Bachelor's degree or higher in, Communications, Technical Writing, English, Journalism and/or equivalent degree may substitute for 1 year of advance technical or paraprofessional experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in communications, technical writing, journalism, English or equivalent
  • Developing technical and web content using AP style and plain language
  • Experience remediating web and digital documents to meet Section 508, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), W3C WCAG and the State of MN and DHS accessibility standards
