Job Summary
Job Summary
This position exists to carry out clinical and molecular biology assays for heritable and congenital disorders in newborn infants, interpret and report results in the laboratory information management system, maintain laboratory instrumentation, and troubleshoot analytical and instrumental problems. This position applies advanced biochemical and molecular skills to analyze newborn dried blood spot specimens and evaluate newborn screening results using quality criteria and standard operating procedures. This position assists the supervisor in meeting the goals of the program.

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related Clinical Laboratory science.
Two years of professional Laboratory experience specimen testing and interpretating data results. Laboratory experience with analytical reagent preparation and clinical specimen processing is required.
A Master's degree in the fields above may count toward a year of experience.
Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Education requirements are needed for this position including 24 semester/36 quarter credits in medical laboratory technology or 24 semester/36 quarter credits of science courses that includes:
• Six semester/nine quarter credits in chemistry.• Six semester/nine quarter credits in biology.• Twelve semester/eighteen quarter hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
Applicants must provide evidence of course completion at time of interview.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Laboratory experience in a high throughput testing laboratory.
  • Knowledge of College of American Pathologists (CAP) principles and practices.
  • Ability to operate, maintain and troubleshoot sophisticated PC-based analytical instrumentation.
  • Technical skills and familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Knowledge of the chemical theories and principles used in the analytical procedures performed in the laboratory.
  • Technical skills and detailed knowledge of PC-based analytical equipment for data reduction and information management.
  • Ability to identify and eliminate errors in analytical procedures and solve design problems in development of new procedures.
