Fleet Services Manager

Up to $125,238 Annually

This position exists to serve as the section manager of Central Office/ Fleet Management. You will provide direction and leadership to the Department of Transportation in the financially effective and successful management of the agency's fleet of on and off-road equipment that is used in the maintenance and construction of the state's transportation infrastructure.

Tele working may be considered pending approval.

Three years managerial experience OR Four years advanced professional supervisory (**) experience providing leadership and oversight over fleet management functions at a large organization.

**Advanced professional supervisory experience means: supervising staff; overseeing a significant phase of related program including policy development.


Either qualifying scenario above must demonstrate the following experience:

Certification as a Fleet Manager (through either the National Association of Fleet Administrators or the American Public Works Association) or ability to obtain within 2 years.

Experience overseeing fleet operations of a large scale in excess of $25 million, complex budgetary sources, and inventory systems.

Valid Class D driver's license

Leadership: demonstrated leadership skills and experience to successfully lead and manage agency-wide initiatives, develop, and implement innovative solutions to complex issues, and lead and develop consensus amongst staff who do not report directly to the position when developing and completing projects/programs.

Fiscal: applied fiscal management experience with large, complex budgets including allocating resources.

Technical: demonstrated knowledge of specification writing for all types fleet equipment with particular emphasis on truck and heavy equipment units; considerable knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) as well as Mn Commercial Vehicle Inspection requirements.

Communications/Human Relations: excellent oral and written skills to successfully interact and create strong relationships with management, external stakeholders, and MnDOT staff and a high level of negotiation and conflict management skills.
