Job Summary
Job Summary
This position will provide analytical support to the Biomonitoring and Emerging Contaminants (BEC) Unit of the Public Health Laboratory with The Minnesota Department of Health.
The principal responsibility for this position is the analysis of human clinical specimens to support the Chemical Laboratory Response Network and biomonitoring projects. The chemical analysis platform will primarily be Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and Liquid Chromatography - Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). This position will also follow established standard operating procedures as well as develop and write new procedures as needed.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience conducting laboratory analyses in an analytical or research program in Environmental Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Clinical Chemistry.
A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biological sciences or related field may be substituted for 1 year of experience. A Master's degree may be substituted for 18 months of experience.
A minimum of 8 semester/12 quarter college credits of Chemistry and a minimum of 8 semester/12 quarter college credits of Organic Chemistry and/or Biochemistry is required. Applicants must provide evidence of successful course completion prior to employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in chemistry or a related field.
Knowledge of organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and statistics. Additional knowledge of clinical chemistry, toxicology, and environmental health is also preferred.
Significant bench experience with the following analytical chemistry platforms: Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) and Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
Experience with preparation of clinical specimens, environmental samples, and reagents.
Experience with multiple analytical software programs (Agilent Mass Hunter, Sciex Multiquant/Analyst). Analytical experience with clinical matrices (blood and urine), quality assurance programs and Laboratory Information Management systems.
Communication skills sufficient to clearly and effectively organize and synthesize material from diverse sources.
Ability to prepare and make effective oral and written presentations.
Ability to write and collaborate in writing the results of research projects.
Ability to work independently and manage time, workload, and priorities without day-to-day supervision of activities.
