Job Summary
This position will facilitate relations between the medical and professional community throughout Minnesota and the Disability Determination Services (DDS). Medical Relations Officers recruit, develop, and maintain a panel of consultative exam providers to ensure the DDS has adequate resources to process disability claims in a timely and accurate manner. This position resolves problems with consultative examinations or treating medical vendors, including the investigation and handling of public complaints. Those in this position interface with vendors to ensure that requested medical evidence is received efficiently and accurately. Medical Relations Officers ensure effective billing from medical vendors so that payment to these vendors is timely, appropriate, and within federal and state guidelines. This position provides DDS presence at medical and social service conferences, professional meetings, and relevant public events throughout the state. Medical Relations Officers complete mandated medical oversight and other verifications and assist in the development of the DDS's medical fee schedule.
This position is telework eligible and is occasionally required to be on-site at the St.paul office. Staff are provided with the tools and equipment to be successful in a virtual work environment and may telework from anywhere in Minnesota or a neighboring state. Please note, the telework policy could change with notice based on business needs.

Current Disability Determinations Service employee with two (2) years of experience in evaluating complex Social Security Disability claims, and who are in a classification authorized to adjudicate Initial, Reconsideration, and Age 18 Redeterminations.
Applicants that meet the above minimum qualification will be further evaluated on the following: Experience with complex initial claims, Age Eighteen (18) Redetermination claims, Continuing Disability Reviews, Reconsiderations.Problem solving and analytical skills sufficient to identify and resolve discrepancies.Skills in multitasking and prioritizing work.Skills in interpersonal communication, human relations, and conflict resolution.Skills in providing presentations to a wide and varied audience.
Preferred Qualifications Communication skills to successfully present complicated subjects, such as Social Security Administration (SSA) policy and procedure, to the medical and social services communities in MN, members of the public, and DDS staff using audio-visual equipment, both in-person and virtually.Experience developing training and policy materials.Experience peer mentoring, including outlining best practices.Experience processing Continuing Disability Review Claims.Experience collaborating on special projects or agency initiatives.Preferred candidates will have a variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds.
